How RUDE

Now normally I’m always positive on my blog and I will share fun stuff or interesting stuff, actually you will never really hear me “Bitch” about something, but what happened a few hours ago I just have to share because this is like the rudest thing ever. It all happened at this restaurant “Doner Kebab” at the Heumarkt in Koln.

Imagine this, and I really tell you this is 100% true.
Close to our hotel there are some restaurants and yesterday we took our friends from Expoimaging out to eat to a Chinese restaurant and as you know how those things go, you eat and you talk a bit, no problem… right ?

So today I was with our friend Hector from DXO at the Doner Kebab store near our hotel.
Annewiek, me and Hector, they had some nice seats outside (lots of them) and we sat down and ate, because it was more than fun we decided to keep sitting and ordered some beers and cokes, after the beers we ordered some more, in the mean time Annewiek left us to get something from the hotel. And now pay attention (because you’re not gonna believe this), Hector literally  took his LAST zip of his beer and at the MOMENT it hit the table a waiter was with us and asked us if we wanted something more to drink, because Annewiek was not back yet we answered “No not now, we wait a little”.

The answer we got really got me “confused”.
“Then you leave”
“You say what ?”
“we’re a restaurant, not a sitting place, go sit in the square there are plenty of spaces”
“Well….. what ? you’re kidding right”
“You can’t sit here for an hour and no drinks”
“Dude we had diner with 3 people (and not the cheapest on the menu), we had 6 drinks and we’re waiting for my wife”
“No drinks you leave…. now”

As easy going as we are we just moved to the square.
However somehow this bugged me, in fact we did wanted to order more but wanted to wait for Annewiek, and when we were send away the seating area was only for 25% filled up, I would say, the more people you have sitting in your area the better it looks for other people. When we left it was almost empty (maybe 5-6 people left).

I have to be honest, I went back inside and tried to communicate with the guy.
“listen, we had diner, and 6 drinks in 45 minutes, how can you send us away, we’re paying customers”
“No, you go, we not a sitting place, you drink you stay, other wise sit somewhere else”
“Really….”
“Yeah, no sitting for an hour without drink”
“Dude again, we had drinks, my friend just took his last zip and you started harassing us (I don’t think he knew that word”
Waiter waving hands and sending us away.

Well at least I made my point 😀
And two other guests who were ready to order left….. plenty of restaurants left.
Now we are people that when we like something we come back, and we’re here till monday night and taking friends out to diner every night…… I think we will hit the Chinese place again they were fun and nice…….

Did you ever experience something that RUDE ?
Again I’ve had some shitty service in some places and will never use my blog to say something about it, but this really had me flabbergasted.

Some tips for travel photography

Let me start off by telling you that I don’t think of myself as a great travel photographer, my main focus is fashion/glamour and teaching those areas of photography. However thanks to my work I do travel a lot and over the years I’ve been building a portfolio from the shots I take during the trips that I even feature on my website, meaning that I really like those shots. Of course most of the images I took 2-3 years ago are now replaced by new ones, and the new ones I like a lot better so I’m learning every trip.

During my seminar “being creative and getting the shot” there is a lot of attention for some parts of travel/street photography and people respond very positive to this part of the seminar, so I thought it would be fun to share some tips on the blog, I hope it will help you out on your next trip/vacation to take better shots. And remember that ALL these techniques also translate to model/fashion/glamour photography.

Find reflections
Reflections are found everywhere, you can start out with some reflections of yourself in sunglasses or in windows, but it gets more interesting when the reflections are getting bigger and what is better for this than huge skyscrapers. Play a bit with the tilt of your camera (angle) and you can create some very interesting looking images.

Photokina day 1

Hi Guys,
Just a quick update from Photokina.
It’s a HUGE exhibition again, actually almost too big, we just walked around a few hours and had more meetings than expected so I could not see everything I wanted, but some things really caught my attention, so let’s give a bit of attention to them,

First off, NO NIK !!!!
Oh my, now I’m REALLY worried, could it be that because Google bought it for snapseed they are indeed killing of the plugins we all love so much….? I hope not, I would be devastated, but  it does feel weird that NIK is not at Photokina.

Second Fuji.
They just released the XF1 a lovely small camera with all the right looks (I fell in love with it right away), it’s like a smaller brother of the X10, anyway I love the vintage looks. But they also released something else that got my heart beating twice as fast, the X-E1, and I will be testing one very soon. This camera is AWESOME, it’s like the X-pro1 but a little bit different, better EVF (but no optical), great great ISO performance, even double exposure (great how Fuji incorporates film stuff into digital), and I LOVE the look, the little bit of metal on top (like the X100) is something that stole my heart as soon as I saw the X100, and don’t get me wrong, I love my X-pro1 but it’s totally black and to get into the system it’s not the cheapest camera, the X-E1 promises to solve all this with a considerably lower price point and the same gorgeous quality, anyway… can’t wait to test-drive that camera.

Some images from PSW

Without any doubt PhotoshopWorld is for me one of the highlights of the year.
PhotoshopWorld is switching between the east and west coast and is held twice a year.
To say that PhotoshopWorld is just a tradeshow is a big understatement, yes there is an expo floor with a lot of booths, but most of all PhotoshopWorld is about teaching, imaging being taught by the best instructors in the world in Photoshop, Photography, Lightroom etc. you will be blown away by the choices you have. During the day there are seminars from early morning to late in the evening, and then there are the parties, midnight madness, portfolio reviews, panels and so much more…. it’s mind boggling. The main attraction of PhotoshopWorld is that the teachers are not the “demo-ers” you normally see at trade shows, imaging seeing Scott Kelby, Matt Kloskowski, Dave Black etc. at work on the Expo floor in the booths explaining their tricks, you feel what I mean ? 😀

I always tell people that my favorite times of the year are my birthday, christmas and PhotoshopWorld.
For me (and all other instructors) it’s a huge honor to be able to call myself one of the instructors at PhotoshopWorld, this time was my fourth PhotoshopWorld in a row and the second where I taught a so called Pre-con workshop.
