During the location workshops one of the things I always show is the difference between natural light and strobe.
Normally people think that the natural light shots will be much less interesting than the strobe ones, however the end result mostly surprises people.
in this blog post two examples of natural light shots followed by the strobe ones.
What you will probably see is that the whole look with the strobe images is different, but that I also changed angles and poses with the two different setups. The image with the strobe has way more drama and “push” which for me is more fitting the scene and the look.
Here are some more. First the ones with the available light.
And the strobe versions.
And of course with some black and white conversion you can really spice the look up.
So on location always experiment with both natural and strobe light, it’s very easy, just turn off the trigger for the strobes and use the natural light, the result is that you can now offer your client 2 totally different looks from the same location.
