Impossible project

The promised post about Prater will be tomorrow because today I have another very special blogpost.
Tonight I visited “the Impossible Project” store in Vienna.
For people that do not know what the impossible project is, a very short piece of history, when Polaroid stopped production a lot of people were “devastated” who did not grew up with the instant film from Polaroid, I know I loved them, the magic of seeing an image develop in front of your eyes is still “a kind of magic”. And let’s be honest the look is still unique, and ok filters like Alien Skin Exposure (4) rock and give you an amazing look (very similar) but nothing beats shooting a real Polaroid.
Well to make a long story short, according to most it would be an impossible project to resurrect Polaroid, but a group of very enthusiastic employees, investors and “fans” did it, they bought everything they could in Enschede (yes in the Netherlands) and starting the production of an unique instant film called “the impossible project”.

 

Now in 2012 there is not only film available but they also have several kinds of film, and for me (a vintage look fan) this is of course amazing, but I have to admit that I never tried the “impossible” film, I still had some polaroid left and I only shoot it on special occasions, but when we looked for a restaurant the day before yesterday we saw a store from the impossible project, however they were closed…. so of course I had to go back. And last night I did.

Vienna Day 1

At the moment I’m in Vienna Austria.
From Wednesday till Friday I will be teaching 3 full day (intense) workshops in some awesome locations, like castles, so this promises to be amazing. There are still 1-2 seats available I heard, so surf to http://www.photoconvention.eu and book your seats.

But the first 2 days we’re in Vienna and enjoying the city.

This morning our alarm went off at 3:00AM and our journey began, luckily it’s just a small hop (90 minutes flight), so we arrived in Vienna around 9:00AM and still had the whole day ahead of us.

At the Dapper market Amsterdam

This week I visited the Eyes on Media event “Meet the Credo’s” from Leaf, where we could get the first “experience” with the new Leaf digital backs in the Credo line up. I already ordered the Credo 60 but still could not resist to take a quick peek. I can say it’s an awesome back, the display is incredibly bright and is very speedy, the swipes are smooth and fast and zooming to 100% with the Credo 80 (80MP) was done in about 3 seconds (very impressive).
Because Eyes on Media is located in Amsterdam I could not resist to very quickly (10 minutes) visit the Dapper market. I never went there before but I got a tip it was a nice place to shoot some images, and as you know I love to do some street style photography some times, and because I’m in the middle of writing my book for the Dutch market I sometimes miss shooting, so this was the perfect chance.

Sometimes a mistake can be cool

When using a digital back (in the case a Leaf AptusII7) on a camera like the Mamiya RZ67ProII one can run into a problem when shooting to quick… in 99% of the cases this means you can throw away the images, but sometimes an interesting image comes out.


What happens is that part of two images are mixed together but also a lot of “artifacts”. Normally the back will tell the camera when you can shoot again, but with the RZ67ProII there is no “communication” between the back and camera, so officially I have to wait for the beep….. when you don’t in the heat of the moment stuff like this can happen, it happens rarely but when it does…. very very rarely something comes out that is fun enough to share, but this time I think it was interesting.
