Final images USA

The last few days I’ve been posting some material shot during our 2 weeks stay in the US, today the final images that I like but were not fit for the other posts. They are just holiday snaps but I think worthwhile for the blog. Most were shot in locations we found while driving from Washington to New York and Boston. We always drive “off the roads” so we end up in places that are not often visited by tourists and show a different “story” / “view” than the well know tourists sites, and to be honest I like this the most.

Philadelphia Penitentiary

During Photoshop World I mentioned my love for abandoned buildings and got the tip to check out the Philadelphia Penitentiary, thanks to the tips I got from Cliff Mautner I decided to check out the Penitentiary and take the tour.

The Philadelphia Penitentiary is in fact open for the public and is without a doubt a sight that you should really check out when you’re in that neighborhood, and to be honest it would have been worth a big detour. When you are there make sure you also take one of the guided tours, they show you parts you can’t get to as normal visitor and you will get some time to take images, plus the tour guide we got was really relaxed and let you wonder off just a little bit to get the perfect shot.

So here are some of the images I loved from the Philadelphia Penitentiary.

Abandoned places

As a photographer it’s no secret that we love weird strange places to shoot, and my favorites are without abandoned places. In the Netherlands they are somehow hard to find, but you can find some if you look. So when I’m on a trip I will always try to find some on route.

Because we most of the time try to drive “off the road” the change of bumping into these buildings is much greater than when staying on the main roads, this is by the way something I can advise to everyone… when on a trip try to program your nav system to take “main routes” as minimal as possible, your driving time will be much longer in most cases, but you will find some great places. In this blog post just some images we shot during our trip in the US with the topic decay.

Visiting BH

We’re back home from two very intense weeks.
It all started out at Photoshop World where I taught several demos and seminars and did a lot of demoing for Manfrotto (Elinchrom) and Expo imaging (the flash bender).

After Photoshopworld we travelled to New York where I taught a 2 hour seminar about inspiration, reaction and getting the shot. It was a huge success, the seminar was recorded and will be online in a few weeks.

Before the seminar I got a nice “VIP” tour of B&H showing the different departments and explaining the vision and service/products that made B&H the store it is today. In this blogpost my opinions of the tour and B&H.
