Inside look magazine the interview edition

A while ago I made two magazines called inside look.
I never really liked them, the layout was crappy, the images were ok and the stories were ok.
As many know I’m a perfectionist and I decided to stop with this fun magazine.
It was never meant as a real magazine by the way, but just a fun way to share some articles which now a days are shared online in my blog, but those days there wasn’t a real blog. Some people asked me if I could start up the magazine again and give them some inside in my work, models, workshops etc. and I always told them there was no time enough in the day already.

However a few weeks ago I decided to give my intern the assignment to interview some models, a student, some companies I work with, my interns and of course well myself. The idea was more to keep it for her school but I loved the concept so much we decided to shape things up and give it to you guys as a christmas present.
I had to work fast with the edits to release it today, so now you guys come in 😀
If you find any errors, typos etc. please let me know and I will change it.

And for the future ?
I love the concept we have now, if you want to see more just let me know, give me tips about what you want to see, if you want to help out, or whatever…. just mail me at [email protected] and we will take everything into consideration, there is so much to share 😀

You can download the magazine at www.frankdoorhof.com/insidelook/interviewed.pdf

Feel free to share, and comment, but remember this is not A MAGAZINE !! it’s just the inside look magazine, maybe a first in a series, maybe the last.

Some christmas presents

A lot of sites do it, so I though why not………..
Here are some of the things that I think are great to get or to give away, some products you will know already from my blog or workshops.

Shooting tethered and review tethertools…..

Many people who know me will know that I’m a big advocate for shooting tethered in the studio and if possible also on location.
Some people will say it’s a hassle to setup a notebook and shooting with a wire is so limiting, I have to agree with this at first, but still I strongly believe that the negatives are nothing compared to the benefits of shooting tethered.

When shooting on the card you have no real feedback on the quality of the files, you can of course check on the back of the camera but even taking into account that the modern cameras have a great quality screen, the back of the camera is still no way to make 100% sure you nailed the focus. When working with a team it becomes even worse, I’ve seen 10 people gathering around to look at the back of the camera to see how the images look, well that simply doesn’t work.

When shooting tethered we have a totally different workflow.
First of all it’s a lot faster in real live, when shooting on the card I find myself shooting more images simply to make 100% sure I’ve got the shot. When I shoot tethered I can see what I’m doing on large screen were I can zoom in on the RAW files to 100% but there is more of course…..

Push yourself to improve with….. a Phone and social media ??

Yesterday I taught a small seminar for the Photoclub at Delft and during a few of the conversations the idea for this blog post grew.

Today we almost all have a telephone with a camera, when you are using an iPhone4 you are even one of the lucky ones that have a rather good camera and a great videocamera, but how can we use this to improve our own photography and video capabilities ?
