New images Nadine

Today some new images we shot with Nadine last week during a workshop.

Nadine always does her own styling and is without a doubt one of the most creative persons I work with, a session with Nadine is actually always like a party, you never know what you’re gonna get, but you know you will love it 🙂

This setup is a relatively simple setup with the Elinchrom 1.50 mtr indirect octa.
For the next image I lowered the output of the 1.50mtr and added a grid and reflector to create a more “spotlight effect”.

For the following setup I used the 1.50 indirect behind me as main light and two Elinchrom wide reflectors as accents (you really have to get these, they rock for accents but most of all for making perfect white backgrounds, and they are incredibly cheap compared to the other solutions). On the back there was one strobe with grid.

The following set was more aimed towards color, this is why I choose the brown background to “blend” the model into. I love to play with high contrasts in colors, but sometimes it can be so much more powerful to “blend” everything together and let the light do the accents for the viewers eyes.

The next series we shot with a ring flash.
I love using the ring flash from time to time, but it has to be for a special look. Some people will shoot everything with a ring flash because they now don’t have to worry about shadows and to be honest when I see those images I just find them flat looking, something you would expect in a “mens” magazine without too much attention for the photography…. and don’t get me wrong you can do wonders with the ring flash, but I strongly believe you should go for the LOOK or add other lights to make it more “alive” for me the ring flash is also often used as a fill in light, set maybe 3-4 stops below the main light, so hardly seen unless you take it away.

Of course you can always use the ring flash also off camera….
