Building a complete set with lensflares and flags.

I love building mood in a scene.
It can be done with color, a lens flare, styling etc. but for me there always has to be something “extra” in the shot.
In todays video I show you how we build a rather complex but awesome lighting setup during a workshop with our model Felisa. I think you’re gonna love this one.

How did you do that?

In a new series on the blog I’ll try to show some images including the light setup.
Normally you will find all the technical stuff in the instructional videos, my books or digital classroom but I’ll also show some on the blog.

This time a high impact portrait with Nadine.
Shot during a workshop with a very simple beauty dish and a wall with wallpaper.
You can see the students shooting the same shot.
The key is the nice harsh lighting from a silver beauty dish that is not too far away from the model and trying to shoot under an almost identical angle with the beauty dish creating nice flat lighting for this setup.

Test session Simone (new glamour model NSFW)

As you might already know I’m in the middle of test sessions for new models which will be used during our workshops. Last week it was time for Simone, and as you can probably see from the images I’m glad to be adding her to our line up of models for the workshops. So in this blog post today some of the images we did during her testsession. The testsessions are always around 2 hours and we try to shoot some simple setups and see what the model does in front of the camera with little coaching.

The “soul” of a shot

Without a doubt something I love to do is to create a mood in a shot.
Much to my surprise I get a lot of questions were people show me totally “flat flashed” images and ask me “how do I go from this to your work, which filter do you use ?” well…… the magic Frank Doorhof filter is still in beta and ….. well ok I will tell you in this blog post.
