X-Rite webinar

Doing a webinar is always an exciting thing.
You are live, anything can go wrong, and there is no feedback from the audience, some people love it, some people don’t. I do like the tension to be honest, but for the following webinar I did add a bit more tension….

Normally with a webinar you stream your desktop, show some Lightroom and Photoshop etc. and well… that’s about it.
Well for me that’s something I’ve done so many times that I decided it was time to up the ante just a little bit, for the X-rite webinar we transformed our studio into a small “tv studio” and streamed not only the desktop but also live footage from 3 cameras in our studio (2 webcams and one normal camera). Because we needed more bandwidth we also used a satellite internet connection to stream the content. In the end it all worked out just fine, the frame rate is a bit on the low side I think but that’s more a problem of the software used to stream everything, from our side we have done tests with 720P which went without any problem, so….. for the future we have some interesting things planned as you can imagine.

For today enjoy the webinar I did for X-Rite in which we did a life photoshoot with our model Marie and you will see an explanation about the color checker passport and retouching.

One background… many options

During one of the workshops we decided it would be interesting to see what you can actually do with one background.
The only thing we changed was the light and the retouching process.
So the next time you think that you don’t know what to do with your backgrounds anymore… think about this post and start experimenting with the position of light, retouching etc.
I do have to add that we choose the pink background because this is a very strong color and actually much harder to “cover up” than for example gray or white.

New Portfolio

Yeah I know when I do a portfolio review I always tell people to bring their portfolio down to just a few shots, often maybe 10-20% of what they are showing now, but when I looked at my own online portfolio….. well it was a bit too big I guess. There are a lot of excuses of course, like
too busy
oh but I really love that shot
oh but everybody loves that shot
hummmm I just love the tinting in that one
etc. etc.

So after my trips from November and seeing the fact that a lot of things will change for us in 2013 (all good by the way) I thought it was time to start cleaning house in my portfolio….. and that was hard. In total I had over 900 images online ranging from fashion work to street photography and some sports. And don’t get me wrong I love sports but that category is gone, and trust me I love live concerts but also that one is gone. Those images can still be found on my blog of course and I will keep updating those with those shots but what is a portfolio?
