Many different looks from one setup

Often I’m asked what kind of setups I use and what kind of modifiers.
What people often don’t realize is that with only one modifier you can chance a lot just by playing with the angles and controlling the contrast/lightfall off. In fact placing a light closer or further away also makes a huge impact on the image look, add to this the option to feather a light source (using the sides of the light) and you know that there is a lot possible with one modifier and light.

It gets even more interesting when you are combining two strobes and for example add a gel to one of them.
During the workshop this weekend I made a setup like this with our model Lennaa and decided it would be a cool thing to share on the blog.

I started out with one strobe with a red gel.

To get a bit more “punch” in the image I added another strobe without gel under the same angle to mix the two.

Martial arts

Today a second part of the motion/action workshops I taught last week.
When looking for themes for this workshop I actually met Melvin via one of our models (Marie), and when I heard he was into martial arts I did not have to think twice and invited him over to be one of the models for these special 2 day workshops. He loves doing this kind of stuff and that helps a lot when you have to ask him to do some moves over and over again, but he did great 😀

We added a “little” bit of smoke to spice things up.

Focus on imaging 2013 Birmingham

Oempf, it’s over and done…..
Well Focus on Imaging that is.
What an incredible show this was.

For us these shows are not only cool to look around but also a great way to network and meet up with a lot of great friends like Hector from DxO (we have some cool stuff coming from that corporation), Alastair and the team from SmugMug (more on that later this week), Erik from Expoimaging who just released an amazing striplight (reviewed on this blog a few days ago), the team from Mamiya/Leaf and Phase One (great new camera) and of course our friends from Tethertools and we can of course not forget our buddies/groupies/crazy guys Glyn Dewis and Daveeee (and many many more).

During the show I managed to film some interviews for the next episode of “The DOORhof is always open” with Maisy, Steve Howdle and our buddy James Schmelzer (In my opinion one of the best promoters for constant light) and this week we will also film an interview with no one less than Drew Gardner.

I’ve been one of the guestspeakers on the booth of our very good friends from “The Flash Centre”. Normally during tradeshows  you are often incredibly limited space wise but not when you work for Elinchrom and “The Flash Centre” a spacious stage and when they asked me what I wanted to do and I replied “Get me a smoke machine” I thought “this is never gonna happen”…… well it did. And when you give me room and a smoke machine…. well weird things can happen.
