Behind the scenes during the FotoFair 2023

Today we take you behind the scenes during the workshops I taught during the yearly FotoFair event.
The FotoFair is a fairly unique concept where almost every kind of photography is covered. Workshops range from animals, macro, nature, movement, flowershoots to fashion

Besides the workshops there are a lot of other activities and demos from major manufactures and some stores.
And it doesn’t stop there, although the workshops are only for paid attendees there are also a lot of cosplayers, steampunk, vikings and anything in between walking over the event terrain, so if you love to take photos, well you get the idea :D.

I taught 2 workshops each day and this was the first time we ever used the Geekoto strobes during such an event.
I did some smaller sessions with them in our studio but during the FotoFair they really got tested. Not just because they were used a lot (12 students per group) but also because the heat was almost unbearable in our tent, and I can say… they did marvellously.

I hope you enjoy the behind the scenes video we shot.

Building a complete set with lensflares and flags.

I love building mood in a scene.
It can be done with color, a lens flare, styling etc. but for me there always has to be something “extra” in the shot.
In todays video I show you how we build a rather complex but awesome lighting setup during a workshop with our model Felisa. I think you’re gonna love this one.

Behind the closed DOORs teaser episode 1

This is the first episode (or call it teaser) for “Behind the closed DOORs”

In this videoblog I will be filming the material you normally don’t see, the BTS BTS videos so to speak, how we arrange photoshoots, how I connect my gear, make backups and well what we normally do during a workday or during trips.

I film this all with my iPhone so no fancy audio, no fancy lighting, it’s just as it is and I think that is the main attraction for this videowebpodcast, due to the simple approach I can film stuff we normally don’t because I don’t have a proper camera with me or lighting.

Now if you want to make sure we can create more episodes of this videoblog and of course all our other material… head on over to www.patreon.com/frankdoorhof and support our work, you don’t only support this videoblog but you support all our work and you make sure we can continue giving you guys free stuff. PLUS You can get some amazing benefits like portfolio reviews, 1:1 Skype calls, images for your mac/pc or smart device and much much more.

Digital classroom EP1 (the test)

Last week saw the release of a new series in our educational program.
I’ve done a lot of workshop and webinars and both are 100% different, a workshop is a real 1:1 experience (we always work with small groups), a webinar is more a “watch and learn” experience.

For a long time I wanted to do something in between and never had the chance to do it, setting this up costs a lot of money as you can imagine (different camera angles, assistants, fast internet etc) but thanks to our friends at BenQ, Rogue and of course Elinchrom we finally were able to pull it off.

We dubbed it the “try out episode” but as far as we could see everything went very smoothly and what we ended up doing was a 3 hour intense instructional video with interaction from you guys.

We did not promote it a lot because we didn’t want a lot of people online if it would go wrong 😀 but… don’t worry we recorded it and you see it via this blogpost (or on our YouTube channel of course).

Please feel free to share the link, watch it and comment on it here or on YouTube, the idea is to do these kind of sessions 10x a year and normally they will have a topic just like the workshops, so except some smoke, movement, masks, location work etc.

Is it the same as a workshop?
No of course not 😀
A workshop is much more intense and has way more interaction, but I think we bridged the gap between a webinar and a small group workshop.

Is it the same as your instructional videos?
No of course not 😀
The instructional videos and the KelbyOne videos I do are much more in depth and will have totally different topics. The idea of the digital classroom is to show you guys how we work, what we do to complete a photoshoot and you can interact and ask questions, it’s not meant to replace the instructional videos or our other videos like on KelbyOne, if this gives you the hunger for more…. there are actually those options… book a workshop or watch/buy the instructional videos.

Enjoy.

Many thanks to our friends at BenQ, Rogue and Elinchrom to make this possible.
