My blog, although I don’t see myself as a blogger but as a Photographer I will try to blog some interesting material during the weeks.

Last weekend me and my wife travelled to Belgium to visit some clients.
Because the weather was terrible and the time schedule really hectic and tight I did not have time to go out and visit some interesting sites to shoot, but as most of you will recognize I just can’t go without taking some shots, and with the help of our friends at NIK 🙂 I think I managed to get some interesting shots which I will share with you today.
I get a lot of mails about photoshoots and ideas that people want to work out with me.
I love fashion stuff and if it’s really a good idea or the clothing is stunning I will often be willing to do photoshoots that benefit my own portfolio on TFP basis. Sometimes however I also get questions about nude images and although I’m not against nudes I often refuse the shoots because the ideas are not fitting for what I find acceptable (one could say I’m really picky when it comes to nudes), of course I do the occasional glamour but actually I never did a male/female photoshoot with nudes.
However when Dagmar and Vincent asked me I did not have to think long (although I have to admit I did not say yes right away), both have already modeled for me before and I loved working with them and both have great bodies so this could actually work out. Because I hardly use nudes in my portfolio my “demand” was that we also did some more clothed shots, in this blog post you can some of the results we selected from this series. Do remember that the images can be considered NSFW in some countries. Although you don’t see anything and the images are not “erotic” I still do warn, so click here if you want to see them.

For people just joining the blog, Wendy is my assistant and works with me within studioFD, she is responsible for organizing stuff, some retouching and she does a huge part of the model for a day program, and of course she helps out with the photoshoots we do. Recently we did a videoclip shoot for a Dutch rap artist Farell/Yung C. I already blogged about this, but today you can see it from a different angle when Wendy takes the blog over for a day 🙂
Todays tip is about working with assistants.
A few years ago I never thought about working with an assistant, I love to work alone or when needed I just asked my wife Annewiek and she helped me out. However when one of my models needed a quick change for her internship (which didn’t work out) I decided to help her out and gave her a spot without our studio. Well to make a long story short, at the moment we have one intern in the studio which stays for 20-25 weeks and one of those interns is now part of the studio as a shooter and retoucher (Wendy Appelman). I do have to add that I only hire assistants abroad when I really need to, Annewiek is always traveling with me and she knows exactly what to do (and when), if she wouldn’t travel with me I would however without a doubt hook up with a local photographer to help me out, because the results will simply put be much better when someone takes some of the “stress” off.
Now I hear you think “Yeah well, you have work enough and need them but I only shoot weekends” etc.
