Review : Watermark Plus for Mac

I get a lot of requests to review software, and to be honest I always look at the software but I also realize “How many plugin and apps does someone need”, I’ve seen plenty of smart phones for example that are literally stuffed with apps to a point that even the user doesn’t remember which one does what (yeah I also have a few too many on my phone). So when I do a review the app/plugin really should add something. And in all honestly I was in doubt if I would review this one, because most of the software I use already supports adding watermarks and they do it pretty good.

The reason I eventually did decide to do the review is that I hear a lot of the starting photographers ask for a way to resize and watermark images without the use of Lightroom for the simple reason they don’t own Lightroom or they just simply want something a bit more fancy and want it simple and fast. And this is exactly where I think Watermark Plus shines.

So what is it?
Watermark plus is an app for Mac and you can find it here : http://www.pearlmountainsoft.com/watermarkplus
It’s sold for $ 19.90.

In short it has the following options:
* supports JPEG, TIFF, BMP, PNG etc.
* zooming into photos
* WYSIWYG (you see what you get)
* build in profiles
* batch watermark
* script tag text
* EXIF inserts into watermark (handy for educational purposes)
* layers
* autosnap watermark
* auto fit for different sizes
* batch resize by percentage, width, height or fit
* batch covert to JPEG, TIFF, PNG, BMP

As you can see it’s a pretty complete program.
Because words can tell you a lot but images tell you more, here some screenshots so you can see what you can do if you decide to keep it “simple”.

Watermark Plus 8The openings page is pretty simple and straight forward, just add some images (select multiple) and you’re ready to go.

Watermark Plus 7

You can keep it simple with just text but why not add a nice “logo”, you can choose some prepared ones or of course build your own.

Watermark Plus 4

Here you can see the text options and also the layers menu. For a watermarking package it’s pretty complete as I already said 😀

Watermark Plus 3

If you just want to add the watermark you can leave everything on “Keep original size” but you can still convert to a different format like JPEG, TIFF etc. You can of course also do this without adding watermarks.

Watermark Plus 2

This is however how most people will use it, making it fit a certain size. The conversion itself is very fast and the files are stored in the location you want.

Conclusion
If the app would only add a watermark I would have probably skipped writing a review, but….. the combination of other options makes this a very easy to “goto” app if you want something done quickly and you don’t want to go through Lightroom or any other RAW convertor.

With watermark plus you can not only add a watermark (and a pretty nice one that is), but you can also batch resize images, batch convert images and do some funky stuff with the watermarks like put in EXIF, script text etc. and all in a very easy to understand package. If you are a starting photographer and don’t own Lightroom or simply put want a bit more I can highly recommend Watermark plus. Order it from this link and also support our work.
