CD presentation Wibi Soerjadi
Yesterday I was invited to the CD presentation for the new CD from Dutch master pianist Wibi Soerjadi, I’ve know Wibi for some years now and have been doing his photography for a few years, in fact during interviews I often refer to the first session I did with him because I feel that changed my career into a roller coaster ride (and that never stopped). I’ve done many covers for him and the images we shot are used for almost all his publications, advertisements etc. but this one was special.
Wibi has been fighting a terrible hearing loss problem and there was a chance he would never recover again, but luckily for him after a 2 year break he is back with probably his best CD ever, but not only this was nice, he also celebrated his 30th anniversary in the music industry, yes he started when he was 11 years old and already than was brilliant. Because I’m not a press photographer I just shot some backstage images and wanted to share those with you today.
As you can see here they made a huge print of the cover of the CD and to be honest I really could not resist to stand next to it for a quick shot. It’s always cool to see your work this big.
Of course being there was without a doubt, but there was another reason I was more than psyched that day. The presentation of the CD (which was gold by the way before the release, congrats Wibi) was done by Dutch stand up comedian Guido Weijers and I’m a HUGE fan of his for some years, I think he is one of the most talented comedians out there now a days, we have a few but only 2-3 really stands out for me and Guido is one of them, so meeting up with Wibi again and shaking hands with Guido made my day more special.
Guido did a hilarious “NOT” show before he handed over the CD to Wibi, and with NOT show I mean that Guido claimed it was NOT a show but just a presentation, I have to disagree with him, the jokes were not only hilarious but also very personal and 100% fitting the occasion and that’s something that’s very hard to do when you do a presentation like this (I think), here is a shot of Guido playing with the audience to warm up their hands.
From my side, congrats Wibi on the golden release of “Wibi” and let’s hope there are a lot more in the future.
And the CD :
In the booklet there are more images, but this is the cover so you can find it in the store 🙂
Hey Frank, Loved the post today… by the way, where can I read about that first session you did with Wibi that changed your carrier?
That was a long time ago, never appeared on a blog, sorry.
