Nadine at EOSdigitaal meeting by Eddy

The EOS Digitaal BBQ 3 oktober 2010

Blogging is an art, same as any other method of self-expression. Some are better at it than others. And blogging is best learned by blogging…. and reading other blogs….
Well, practise makes perfect, so here it goes another blog by me! The lovely male companion a.k.a. personal assistant belonging to miss Nadine Stephan.

Nadine took me along to the EOS Digitaal BBQ / meet this time. A day for Frank to shoot the breeze with people from the EOS Digitaal’s forum, including a BBQ and a few shoots. During my time with Nadine I noticed I’m starting to get the hang of whatever is going on in her head before a shoot, I’ll try to describe it:
She starts with her styling, in this occasion we dropped by at dream dresses in Arnhem to borrow some awesome dresses for this shoot. We walking in for one red dress, apparently Frank loves red.. Finding a suitable red dress wasn’t that hard. The owner of the shop asked us if Frank Doorhof was doing this shoot, after positively replying she walked away and came back with three more dresses. Guess she was impressed with the previous results!
Then Nadine figures out what she wants to do with make-up and hairstyling. This stage is probably the most confusing for me because she reads through a bunch of fashion magazines and marks all kind of stuff. When she’s done she has an idea in her head, which comes out on ‘shoot-day’. That’s as much as I can figure out…
We arrived at Frank’s studio at 11:00 AM. Where Frank showed us his new backgrounds and I finally got to see ‘the stairs’. (see Frank’s portfolio if you want to know what I mean.)

Nadine started with curling her hair, this is when my role as personal assistant (a.k.a. bellboy) suddenly switched to hair stylist. I helped Nadine with combing her hair. During this process something always come out of Nadine’s hair, I refer to it as Chewbacca. For those who are not in the know: that’s the co-pilot of the Millenium Falcon in Star Wars:

After combing out Chewbacca and dispersing of him in an orderly fashion, Nadine swiftly curled her hair, put on her make-up and hoisted herself in a blue/greenish dress. The result:

When Nadine was finished with the first set, she got dressed for the second set in record time, she went for a ‘vampire’-like look that is best depicted on this picture:

I personally love the aggressive stance in this picture, it may even be my personal favorite of the day.
Nadine’s last set was in a greyish dress with her ‘nerdy’ look, complete with glasses. Frank showed how to work with accent lightning and shot some cool portraits as well.
As a bonus, Frank told the EOS digitaal people all about working with models and model-coaching. Nadine quickly stepped in with some perfect acting to illustrate some possible troublesome situations. I didn’t know she could be such a bitchy Diva.. * makes mental note*
During the day Frank told us all about light sources and how you can mess about with them. Mind you, there is probably a professional term for it but if you want to know the technical side of things you’re better off going to one of Frank’s workshops!

Oh. I also learned that Nikon and Canon guys are different:
I was hinted by a EOS digitaal moderator that Nikon guys have a higher IQ because they have to master that difficult and cumbersome menu on their camera!
Hey wait, didn’t these guys all use Canon? Oh well.. Guess it’s true then! 😉

After the BBQ Nadine and me prepared something special. We were inspired by Steel Panther’s ‘Death to all but Metal’ clip:

So, wait, I’m beeing promoted from personal assistant to model by Nadine??
Nah.. Not really. But hey, now I should have a great start (and end!!) to my portfolio. For those who are ‘in the know’: I hope it wasn’t a twt…
Frank used a ringflash to shoot our idea and boy did that thing FLASH!

As you can see, you have to be a total psycho to be with Nadine 24/7. Guess she picked the right one because I had a good time beeing my psycho-self:
(foto van ons als het gelukt is?)
First off I want to thank Nadine for her co-operation with this shoot and the addition to my portfolio 😉
I also want to thank the guys from EOS digitaal for the BBQ and the fun day in Emmeloord.
And last but not least: a big thank you to Frank and Annewiek for their ever lasting hospitality!

It looks like you’re both of the same psycho-breed, good to see these kind of people are still around.

It makes me feel less alone on this world 😉

Again, nice read from an outsider’s perspective, keep it up!
