Guestblog Bart Jansen (BartX)

Sometimes on twitter I host a small “critique day” on which people can tweet their images and I give a small review. The best images I select and the people I will give a chance to post something on my blog. When I saw the image Bart send me the first thing that struck me was that I don’t like “smokers” and now don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean the PEOPLE of course, I just don’t like smoking. But as Bart shows in this guestblog (and I agree) sometimes photographing these smokers can be very nice. I asked Bart for more images and I found out he was doing a series, so that was for me time to invite him over here to tell us about his photography and smokers…. so ladies and gents here is BartX.
And make sure to follow him via http://www.bartx.nl

Review lenses RZ/RB system

A while ago I wrote the review about the RZ67ProII that I love to use in my studio work. Recently this review has become totally hot again because Mamiya re-released one of the best studio cameras. When I bought the camera it could be bought for little to nothing in great shape and the lenses were also very cheap. Somethings have changed, prices have gone up and will probably go up even more when more Medium Format shooters will discover this beauty.
You can read my review of the RZ here.

On the forum one of the visitors (Irek) gave a great review/overview on some of the lenses and I decided to put that review also here on the blog, I think a lot of people can benefit from this, so if you’re in the market for some serieus studio glass make sure to read on.

About myself:
I’ve been interested in arts since I was a child, I stated in painting and drawing, there’s where I learned some things about compositions, specially with landscapes, because most of my paintings where landscapes, I could say photography was a big interest since I was a child but I couldn’t really do photography till I got my very first digital camera about 5 or 6 years ago, just a point and shoot camera, then I was a time without a camera and after a long time got another point and shoots camera, I got my first DSLR Camera in September 2009, a Sony Alpha 330 camera, and I’m still using my Sony camera, so I am into the professional field since December 2009 =), I love proving people I can do it even though they say I won’t get it, I always like going beyond my own traces, and beyond what people believe I cannot do, I’m determined to be one of the best photographers on the Globe, I consider the paths to success are persistence, sacrifice, hard work, believe, hope, and the most important, to have dreams, I’m still in process to learning more and more everyday, my only tools are my camera, my imagination, and my laptop, to me every step is important and when I reach a new level I am happy I get it.

Guestblogger Sven Michiels about concert photography

Today it’s time for a guestblog by Sven Michiels about concert photography, you should really check out his site at svenmichiels.be.
Sven visited my workshops a few times and it was always fun to hang out with him so when I was looking for new guestbloggers I immediately thought of Sven, and when you see his work you will also know why.

Sven Michiels
To take off on this guest blog, I’d like to give you some background information about myself. I’m a Belgian photographer based just in a small village next to Antwerp. Around 5 years ago, I started photographing concerts after a period of mainly car racing photography. Some of my clients on the racetrack introduced me to a well-known concert band: Praga Khan. From the first concert, I really loved concert photography and my clients had the same feeling. Since my first picture on a concert (or even on the racetrack), I knew that several things had to be kept in mind, but there were 2 main points, namely always capture the action & keep looking for unique moments!
