My blog, although I don’t see myself as a blogger but as a Photographer I will try to blog some interesting material during the weeks.
Expect at least 2 updates a week.

More on the Sigma 120-300 f2.8 OS and some cuties

As promised (and when I promise something I always do, but sometimes it takes some time) some more information on the Sigma 120-300 f2.8 OS.

A while ago I bought this lens to replace my Canon 100-400L because I wanted the constant f2.8 and with the addition of a 1.4x convertor I still have a pretty long lens with a constant f4. Now being that it is a Sigma will some people drive to the point that they will not buy it, so I decided to add a small notes to my review (which was pretty positive) from a while ago, you can read that one here. Now let’s be honest, what’s a better place to test drive such a lens than the zoo, so when we had a day off with my family we decided it was time to visit “Beekse Bergen”, this is a great zoo including a real auto safari in which you drive through several areas with animals walking around free.

Just one shot

Today just one shot 😀
Normally a lot of talk and images, but today I thought it would be fun to just share one shot I shot during a workshop and I really like.
Thanks to Carmen and Anne-lotte for the design.

Nadine natural light

A lot of the time when we’re shooting with strobes we would almost forget how beautiful the natural light can be.
Natural light is without a doubt one of the most beautiful light sources we have to work with. Now some people will claim you only can shoot with early morning light, or evening light…. well this of course (mostly) true for for example landscapes, cityscapes etc. However with fashion we often shoot with open reflectors, reflectors with grids etc. so why would it not be possible to shoot in the sun during the day?

What you do have to remember is to take good notice of your shadows, when shooting without any form of modification to the light (translucent screens, reflectors etc.) it’s important to first find the right angle you want to shoot under and then position your model the way that the light actually works with your model. If there is a high sun it’s very easy to get the so called “raccoon eyes” but this is for example easily solved by just tilting the head of the model up so the sun is hitting the face under the “correct” angle.

Location location location

We all know the term, location, location, location.
Meaning in short, that the location is very important….
Well that is of course 100% true, however sometimes photographers over-think this rule a bit too much and think they really need a STUNNING location to be able to make good shots. And I have to agree, this helps a lot of course, but I would like to challenge you to also shoot some images in locations that are actually not immediately jumping out as “stunning, wow or great”.

During the session we did with Nadine in Almelo we shot in some very nice location, but somehow I also always try to find a location that is actually not jumping out as a WOW location, but that I can transform into something interesting.
