Hey Frank… FYI, I used the scrub bar in my new Touch Bar MBP to fast-forward thru the mis-representations on your latest Wacom Studio video ( Jan 2 ) – the 2016 MBR has excellent battery life ( I watched all four pirates of the caribbean movies 10+ hours with battery to spare ) – emojis are due to the os not the touchbar – this is hands down the most capable Mac I’ve used ( much faster than my pair of 2008 MacPro’s ) – the keyboard is just fine ( it’s only noisier compared to the old MBP ) – I have 4 thunder bolt 3 over USB-C ports ( that’s 40Gbps throughput on each port ) – Dongles are no big deal ( ‘USB-C to whatever’ cables are also available for reasonable prices ) – The new MBP has the fastest SSD available ( plus I also connect a pair of Samsung 850’s in Raid 0 that all fits is a very small padded case that weighs nothing ). The only downside is that the Apple Pencil is not yet supported ( hope that comes in the 10.12.3 update ). I still use my Wacom all the time ( mouse was abandoned years ago ) but to imply a negative experience with the new MBP is not only inaccurate but also unfair – I’d suggest that you try a 15″ for real production work before you so publicly condemn it…
Everyone is entitled to their opinion I hope 😉
I’m glad it works great for you. We have a 13″ here and with video editing Annewiek normally had about 30% more battery life on her previous MacBook pro.
Also when you read other reviews, including the consumer organization in the us, they all claim (including Apple by the way) that the battery is not what it’s supposed to be.
Annewiek is using the new MacBook as a replacement of her iMac and that works great. I never said the new MacBooks are junk. Heck
I even say I’m a big Apple fanboy. It’s just not what I (and many) hoped it would be.
In fact in all honesty this whole thing with Wacom and Apple got me thinking and you’re probably gonna hate me now, and I’m selling my Macpro and switched to a “monster” PC for video editing and couldn’t be happier in all honesty. It destroys the Macpro in render times. With photoshop the Macpro was already great and insanely fast but with rendering 4K it took a long time and we do that a lot.
Overall it’s all about personal preference. I think it’s a shame what Apple is doing. They were always my choice of computers and I converted quite some people to macs in the past. Their new course is however very worrying.
I’m glad your MacBook works great. It’s still the most well build laptop out there I think. And indeed the dongles is something you probably have to get used to (although Annewiek is pretty frustrated when she is looking for her USB dongle and misplaced it, plus she can’t use her card reader in a side where there is already something connected. So she now also carries a small hub with her. When she works she needs power, harddrive, dial and that means all the ports are full and her card reader doesn’t fit (it’s just a few mm too wide) but you are right it all is something you “can” live with.
She does use the touchbar but also says that in most programs she doesn’t like it because she has to get her eyes off the screen. In Final Cut and YouTube its fine and handy.
Again. Don’t attack me for something 80% of the reviews confirm.
If you’re like me mostly retouching on the road and shooting tethered the Wacom is very simply put the best experience out there.
If you edit video, watch YouTube, surf etc. a MacBook or really fast laptop would be preferred.
Horses for courses.
My work demands others things I guess. Doesn’t make me a bad person 🙂
I will never ever claim something that I didn’t experience myself. Sorry if my views don’t mirror yours.
