The power of expression
One of the things that can really spice up a portrait is expression.
Often (especially with beauty) however photographers seem to keep the expression out of the picture (pun intended). Now I agree that sometimes expression indeed can ruin an image…. but most of the time for me it really adds something.
The following shots were taken during the Studio76 workshops in Eersel with Manon and were shot with a beauty dish + grid.
Now I have to add that Manon is a model that has a really strong face and control, but with most models you will find out very quickly that expression (even when applied very carefully) can be a big addition to your photoshoot.
So if you’re stuck with your work try out some expression, I think you will be surprised by what it can do 🙂
Do remember that with photography often subtle expressions can be just as powerful as the “big” ones.
Hi Frank
Really a great expression. What lighting setup did you use?
BEST
One maxilight for the portraits.
Beautiful shot and face/teeth. Dids you use a deflector on the Maxilite? Thank you.
No deflector is used, in the maxi light.
I do use a deflector in the beauty dish.
Reminds me of Dorthy from Wizard of OZ
thanks 😀
