Light that is …. different
We all want to improve our skills, we all want to be different in our work and be recognized as having an own look. However somehow most photographers are “stuck” in what they saw, what they learned or what they found out by accident and keep using that over and over again. And some photographers use a setup that is the same every day, simply because it works.
Today I will not bore you with a long blogpost, but today I want to inspire you, push you and maybe help you to lift your photography to a higher level. The images you see in this blog post were shot during one of the glamour workshops and although at first glance you maybe don’t see anything special, however when you try to determine what kind of light source was used you maybe see something “odd”…..
These images were shot with a standard reflector plus grid.
Nothing special I hear you think…. well yes and no.
The look of these images are however not from the reflector plus grid.
The strobe was aimed at a makeup mirror which was used to light the model, by using this mirror you can get a totally different look and form to the light source than you would get from a normal strobe. Experiment with mirrors and see where it takes you….. I think you will find very nice and strange light patterns that, if used correctly, can help you trigger more and more creativity.
Good luck, and feel free to share your results.
I like to use available lights, like the modeling lights(!). I called them “Slow cookers”. I believe they are not easy to work with. This image did well on one of the challenges. Unfortunately it is post processed, little color balance (it was way too red-ish) and little sharpening.
This is also a “Slow cooker” using just the light coming from outside. I entered this one to a challenge asking “grained images”. It’s not easy to take your own photo from arm length, but I did I was thinking. Nothing like your shots, but that’s one of my style, out of box, as you said us to be creative 🙂 This one called “Off centered self”
…and, I am very sorry about my English 😛 I hope reading my post won’t give you head ache LOL
