Fashion serie with Rianne
Sometimes it’s just fun to do some standard shooting in the studio and have some fun with both the model and MUA. This blog post is showing some images from a shoot like that. In this case I worked together with Rianne and Linda (MUA) to create a collection images for Rianne and Linda’s portfolio. In this blog post my personal favorites.
Lovely girl. I like all the images but the second one… and I don’t know why exactly. Thanks for sharing tough, some more ideas for me to use in the studio 😉
Nice images , if you measure the light ( sekonic ) , you measure the face as 18 % grey . Do you use an correction on the 18 % grey or is the measurement is crucial
I think that if you measure reflected light on the face you measure 18% grey. Frank measure incident light with the sekonic so nothing to do with 18% gray.
Correct.
Hi,
Always measure incident for the model.
Unless you want to make sure something is not 100% black or 100% white (or anything in between).
Reflective is great for backgrounds or when you need to calculate.
Lovely shots! Love the effect in the first 2
The more I look at your lighting the more I realise how talented you are frank. Whilst all my portrait work is done outside your work makes me want to hire a studio and get stuck in.
I think his secret is “Pocket-Wizard”… I don’t think it has anything to do with the camera he uses or the models and makeup artists… software… props… nah, it has got to be the light meter 😛 (Little sarcasm here)
however, it’s true LOL
Yep it’s the lightmeter 😀
Thank you, but remember that you can do the same stuff outside. Actually I love to work outside even more than in the studio.
the best place to shoot should between your ears and not a fixed place, take advantage of every situation.
Frank:
I have been viewing your sample video on the Kelby training course. Just that short bit gave me many ideas— as I am very new to working with models. It is the one with the dark long haired girl wearing a black strapless dress with black ballet flats.
Was it a commercial, or the first part of a series…. ?
I don’t remember a girl with black ballet flats to be honest.
Frank, I have a question about the 4th photo. I have made pictures where the models eyes are like this photo. Not that much eye contact, which I like. However some of the comments I get is “you need to capture more of the models eye.” What is your feeling about that?
Well I hardly have models looking into the camera to be honest.
somehow it works best for me when they look away, it adds to the mood of the shot in most cases, however sometimes I love it when they do connect, so it’s very personal.
Do however take note that you don’t shoot too much eyewhite.
Yes I agree. I DO think it adds to the mood. When you say “you don’t shoot….” are you saying that I personally in my port don’t shoot enough eyewhite, or DON’T (as in do not) shoot eye white? 🙂
Thanks Frank
In general 😀
You are always so generous to reply. Much obliged. 🙂
I can’t help but think in the third shot of this post, she’s picking a wedgie. :-p
Frank I would like to know a little about the make up of the colors..is it paint or colored powder? or a mix of the 2? thanks!
A mix indeed.
