Workshop Kent results

As promised here are the results from the workshop I did on October 20th in Kent.
I already made a blog post about this workshop, so this one will repeat some information but now also has the final results.
As always with workshop photos, remember that it all is about the teaching of the techniques so I don’t take as much time and care for my own shoots as I would with a commercial shoot. Not saying I don’t like the results of course, all the shots I do during the workshops are different due to the locations so they are all always challenging and fun to do for me and the students.

The location for this workshop was a large spa/hotel with a wonderful area around it that we were allowed to use for the photoshoots, and we did as you can read and see in the following blog post.

*The first series we did was outside using one strobe and the sun as accent light :

After this we moved a few meters to a beautiful tree. With this setup we used natural light for the first shot with an added strobe to light the model. For the second we used a second strobe to give some edge light to the model. Adding a bit of flare was the running theme during the workshop, something that if possible I love to teach the students because it can be a wonderful addition to your arsenal of special effects that are free…..

After the first outside set it was time to go inside and warm up. During our stay inside we continued of course with the workshop. For the next setup I used just the available light and showed the several stages in which you can add flare or not. The first image on top of this blog post was the first image we took, the following are playing with the available light and flare. Of course I took a lot more images but these two were my personal favorites.

After this it was time for a very simple exercise in contrast control, a very simple one strobe setup and letting the students move around to control their contrast, after this we warmed up enough to start the final outside setup at a cage, because the light was already dying this setup ended with a very simple main light and accent light setup and to be honest it was my least favorite setup of the day (mainly due to the lack of natural light at that moment).

A very nice workshop with enthusiastic students, a great model and a wonderful MUA on a stunning location what more to wish except some more warmth, well at least it stayed dry 😀

    Hi Frank,

Great shots as always. As far as I see in this video, there is Maxi Lite reflector. But, what is the other one used indoor? Is it standard 21cm with grid?
