Razende reporter
I love shooting characters, models are great don’t get me wrong, but as soon as you get actors, artists etc. in front of your camera there is a whole different challenge. It’s not about beauty and a great pose anymore, you really have to find the character. Also these people often are not used to being in front of the camera so you’re coaching techniques become very important because often the person in front of the camera is out of his/her comfort zone. The best part is if the whole shoot goes perfectly and feels for all parties like it was big fun.
Last week it was time for a quick session with our own “Razende reporter” or in English “raging reporter”.
Today some images from that session.
A bit of back information.
In the Netherlands we have a holiday called “Sinterklaas”.
Sinterklaas can be compared to Santa Claus, only he visits the Netherlands with a steamboat from Spain and brings gifts for all the children which are delivered through the chimneys by his helpers called “Zwarte Piet/Black Pete”. He actually arrives somewhere in November and the party of his birthday (where the big piles of gifts are often given to each other) is on December 5th. During his stay in the Netherlands children can place their shoe in front of the chimney (or in front of the door) with a carrot for the horse (which Sinterklaas rides over the rooftops) and they have to sing a song to get candy the next morning.
During this period there is a lot of attention on television for our “Sinterklaas”.
The Raging reporter is one of the main persons in our area which always has an exciting program on television about thieves trying to steal toys, or anything else that can prevent Sinterklaas from being a big success, this is actually the fun during the weeks before Sinterklaas and will have kids glued to the television to see if everything will be allright with Sinterklaas and his team of Black Petes.
So here we go, some shots of our Raging reporter, the hero of all our local children 😀
This year we do have some problems in the Netherlands about Sinterklaas by the way.
His helpers are black and according to some people this is racist, now don’t get me wrong I strongly believe that everything that is racist should be eliminated from this world, we are all equal, but the fact that the helpers are black never ever accrued to me as something racist, it’s like telling the rest of the world that Santa is actually performing animal cruelty because he uses his reindeers to pull his sled and exploiting little people because he has elves working for him (well ok it’s different but you get the idea).
At first we thought it was a joke (connected to the holiday) but at the moment there is even a case in which the UN is looking into the holiday, in my opinion there are more important things in life…. Anyway, so know you know all about “Sinterklaas”.
