A year with Frank

Today a bit of extra attention for an unique new program.
Over the years I’ve been asked many many times if it is possible to run an internship within our studio, and I always have to say “no, sorry” simply because I already run an internship with one student from a photography school for 6 months in a run, and we don’t have room for more students. The learning process however is very interesting. As a photographer I strongly believe it’s very important to not only be able to shoot one kind of thing, but you should specialize in more areas of photography, in other words, use the skills you have in different areas and learn from them all.

But how to achieve this…..?
within the workshops I can teach my students a lot, we run around 10 different kind of workshops and together it’s (I think) more powerful than most so called Photography schools (not to say that all are bad, but there are some…..) However there are always things that I simply cannot fit into a workshop but I do in for example the internship. Think about the business side, the way to build your brand, how to connect, how contracts work, how to make the proper invoices and draw your customers in etc…. there is so much it would take me a year to explain….. well…..

That’s where the idea started to start a new very special, limited amount of people, program called :
“A year with Frank Doorhof”

In this literally year long period you will be guided through a lot of different aspects of photography, don’t think it’s only fashion or glamour or beauty…. You will be pushed across your borders, you will be frustrated by certain assignments, you will make money with some assignments, you will invest with some assignments… however in the end you will grow as a photographer and business, your brand will be better, stronger and more valuable.

How does it work?
During the coming weeks I will take in students, to a max group size of 15 people.
The group will be guided on a personal level by me via live sessions or if you’re from abroad via Google+ hangouts/skype etc. During the course of a year you will receive a new assignment every 2 weeks, and they range from simple assignments like shooting 5 different looks in a series with only one light source to more complex assignments that will involve a team, location, planning and negotiations skills, but also assignments that have nothing to do with fashion or people photography.

In short in the course of this year your borders will be broadened, all your buttons will be pushed, you will be having fun, learning a lot and probably be amazed by what you can do.

Yes of course.
Everyone on the group will have a short or long (just as long as it takes) talk with me over the internet about the new assignment and every month there will be an evaluation about the progress, the problems etc. Also during the program there will be some special seminars about the more commercial side of photography.

So it’s a complete package?
Yep.
You could say it’s a photography course from A-Z, including the business side, it will be aimed at model/fashion photography as a core of course, but again there is so much more that is included that it would be not correct to call it a fashion/model photography program….
