Corine small flash
Last week I taught the small flash workshop. I really love this one because every time I teach this workshop I will try out new things to do with the small flash units. Camera used on these images is the Canon 5DMKII and one strobe Canon 580EXII. For the first images I used only this, so the open strobe without any modifier.
For this image I used a longer shutter time and strobe, the strobes freezes the model and after this I moved the camera around to create a “ghost” like effect.
And although it was a small flash workshop I could not resist to fire off this shot, just the natural light of the mirror, but I just loved the way the bulbs reflected in the background.
After the “non modified” strobe use it was time to bring out a large translucent screen to give the light a nice soft quality. By moving the strobe you can control the softness/hardness. I love this kind of setups because it will give you a very “paintery” quality of light.
And although the translucent screen is great, the students always really get enthusiastic when I start using the flash benders. These little “super bounce cards” are without a doubt THE accessory I will always promote during every workshop I do, you can do some amazing stuff with it, I always say you can literally make the light do what you want it to do. In the following examples for example the model is standing against the wall, and the only thing I changed is the “curve” of the flash bender, and in the last shot my own position.
And by just adding a bit more curve
And finally just changing my own position.

Love it however bias here She is my all time fav model. Glad we still get see Corina. Thank you to both Corina and Frank.
I will always remember the happy face are rings, or they are actually more like studs.
Gotta love it when model adds makeup .
Also the camera movement , love those, I need to try those in studio. Use to do those in night clubs with the laser light shows etc, cool effects.
Your work never ceases to amaze me. Your editing is just beautiful, I would love to learn more about it. Thanks
If more people want I can post some Photoshop tips in the future.
Yes yes photoshop tips! Thank you.
Frank. I follow you because I am an Elinchrom fan also, but you really have a flair for small flash also. I too think the Flash Benders are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Gregg
