Christianne new images
Last Friday it was the first time for me to teach the new workshop Studio Technique I.
During the year I always rewrite my workshops, add new images and some new techniques/tips etc. however with workshop I there was a huge change and it’s always exciting to teach a workshop I’ve been doing for many years in a totally new form, and to be honest it rocked. Over the years the workshop was updated of course but with the rewrite I took a completely different approach for the first workshop, it’s still the same theory but in a more practical way explained with more examples and stories behind the images.
In this blogpost some images from this workshop with Christianne.
Because it’s the first workshop there is a lot of attention for using and reading the meter, both the black background and white background are discussed and explained, both metered with the reflective method (model incident).
New for workshop I is a bit more information on posing, or in other words making a pose more interesting, and how to do this with inexperienced models by coaching a certain way. This was normally part of the Advanced workshop but I also wanted this into the first workshop and although in the Advanced workshop this is a much longer topic, part of it has now also been introduced in the first workshop.
The most fun however is when I show the students what you can do with just one strobe, in fact the images I opened this blogpost with is really just a strobe, no reflector is used, on other words it’s the strobe without any modifier, just the bare bulb, during the setup I’m adding a reflector and finally a grid and in the last setup I’m changing the position of the light, in less than 15 minutes the students can see a lot of different options just with one strobe (which they can try out after this).
And some color versions where I added the grid and changed the location of the strobe.
The last image is shot with the T&S lens from Schneider on a Phase One DF body and Leaf digital back.
Hello Frank!
I follow your works appreciatively, since I’m an Elinchrom photographer here in Italy.
Would you be so kind to explain a quick PP tip to otbain your PERFECT backgrounds? I mean, seamless backgrounds but very solid such those in your final images.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
When you look at the menu webinars you can see the NIK webinar and there it’s explained with the blue background, the technique is universal.
Ze zijn prachtig….en wat een geweldig model
Looks great! I’m looking forward for tomorrow. Hopefully it rocks too!!! 🙂
Love the “grungy” feel of the ones she’s wearing jeans and singlet ( with a slight preference of the duotones over the coloured ones).
Are all of these taken by a single strobe ?
I really NEED to invest in one of your workshops !!! 🙂
Yes all one strobe.
Except of course the white background one.
