Orlando Personal update
As promised somedays I will give a small personal update from our trip in Orlando.
Photoshop World is over so we are doing some personal stuff now.
As mentioned before I love the signs and billboards you see all over the place here, as an American you probably don’t see them or find them annoying, but for me they are superb and very interesting.
Today we decided to drive to Daytona beach (to see if the movies are accurate).
Because we had a lot of time we programmed our GPS to go as much as possible on the touristic routes, or in other words no highways and toll ways. This meant a 90 minute drive became a 3 hour drive, but it was well worth it. As you can see in this blog post, we found a lot of nice signs and other things. Due to the really slow internet in the hotel I can’t show more, but I hope you guys like this.
Remember these are just for fun shots straight out of Aperture.
Tomorrow it’s time for Seaworld and on Tuesday (our last day) I have two models planned for a photoshoot. Looking forward to that very much.
Nice to see you stopped at Krispy Kreme while in Daytona. I was there just 2 weeks ago, visiting with family, and we had stopped there for breakfast before arriving.
But as an Floridian, while many newer billboards are quite obnoxious, there are many that reveal the history of that town that many don’t notice, or have the time to notice they exist. and Seeing the pictures you’ve taken recently are really quite something. You really capture them in an inspiring way that makes me want to get out into town, and photograph my hometown of Oviedo, and the neighboring cities like Winter Park, and even downtown Orlando. When my father and i take trips, he’ll tell me the stories of when he, as a child, would visit his aunt and cousins in Daytona, and see all old cars and stores that today are rare, and in many cases, long gone.
I’m really pleased that you’ve enjoyed your Stay in Orlando so well, and it really inspires me as well so see someone pointing out all the nice things we take for granted. And i hope than when I Bring Nadine Stephan’s sister, Anastasia, out here to visit, that she will enjoy it as much as you have.
Ciao,
David
I love the US.
Much too shoot, but also nice people of course 😀
And yes indeed, a lot of photographers try to find their inspiration to far from home while there is so much at home.
Hoping you didn’t just take a picture of the Krispy Kreme sign and not enjoy a warm round piece of heaven from there.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of your workshops. I couldn’t get enough of your instuction.
I feel like a Frank Doorhof “groupie,” or “obsessive follower” as better described. I aspire to produce work with such technique as you.
Dana Fain
Thanks Dana,
No I did not eat them, it’s like a warm heart attack 😀
I’m already having big problems keeping my “weight” in those days in the states lol.
So nice to see your take on the Sunshine State.
I love the way you see things and hope you had a fine time over here. All the best Frank!
I loved it.
Hi Frank,
It was a pleasure meeting you and taking some of your classes at PSW. You and your wife are such down to earth people. I hope you will be back to PSW next year as well!
I know you mentioned a class in Boston in the fall. I hope to see you in my home town!
Steve Miller
We are planning to do something in Boston indeed 😀
Sounds great! See you soon then!
What could be beautiful than this high-street with all the
food stops there is to it. I would love to live in here for good! And also
reinvent my ways on biking. Hey come join me!
