Some christmas presents
A lot of sites do it, so I though why not………..
Here are some of the things that I think are great to get or to give away, some products you will know already from my blog or workshops.
1. Tethertools Jerkstoppers
Everybody who shoots tethered knows the problem.
You’re in the heat of the shoot and your cable comes loose, or even worse (especially with video) your cable destroys the port on the camera.
Enter the jerkstoppers, connect one part on the camera and one on the laptop and you are done, no more defective ports and no more data loss. I use them myself on a daily basis and they ROCK.
2. Ipad stylus socks
Got into contact with the designer of these great “socks” via Twitter because I was looking for a product that would make it possible for my models and students to place a signature on the iPad with easy release (see 3). The stylus I tried was too soft and was nice to select stuff but not to draw or make a signature with. The stylus socks are great for this and they are VERY cheap, check them out, and order from this little company who makes them themselves from home.
3. Easy release Iphone/Ipad
Being a photographer also means you sometimes have to work with contracts, being for your models or property. You can off course drag pieces of paper with you (and always have the wrong ones) or you can use your iPhone or iPad with easy release. After the signing it will send out mails to both you and the model/owner of the property so it makes storing and getting the releases back super easy.
Easy release can be found in the app store from Apple.
4. the Frank Doorhof app
Hey a little self promotion on my blog is allowed right ?
Of course you already have the app and know it contains feeds to all my work, twitter and facebook. But also news feeds from many photography related sites, but also loads of wiki’s on photography. But that’s not all, there are over 250 tips and tricks, videos, images you can download and a LIVE CHATROOM where you can ask anything you want or talk with other owners of the apps.
For 0.99 dollar cent you can’t go wrong 🙂
5. Nik or OnOne software
We can talk long or short about software but let’s be frank (pun intended), when you know how to use it, it can save you LOADS of time and money. So in reality for most professional photographers, or photographers doing lots of retouching, filters are often earned back very quickly. For me NIK and OnOne are the best around, so check them out and see what you need. A small advise :
NIK : colorefx and SilverFx
OnOne : Maskpro
6. Colorchecker passport
Don’t leave home without it.
Make sure you shoot one when you change the light setup and when doing the retouch work you know you will have a constant image quality. It does not only do away with the colorcasts but it also makes a nice profile. Don’t worry about it being to difficult, if you can drag and drop you know how this works.
There are many many more presents of course, but these are for me the ones that I think are great to get or to get for your self 🙂
Feel free to add more of course.
As long as they don’t include Dutch as a language in Easy Release, it’s pretty useless for many Belgian and Dutch photographers… Hope they can include that fast, it would make my life much easier!
You can make your own release in Dutch.
That’s the way I use it.
