Tani Mara
Yesterday during the workshop Studio Technique II Tani Mara was our model, in this topic some information about the workshop and some of the shots.

The Studio Technique II workshop is the second workshop from the basis workshops, in the Studio Technique I workshop there is a lot of attention for understanding light and measuring it and in the practice part we start out with some portrait work adding strobes to add dimension but most of all showing what light can do when you understand the concept of measuring and manipulating it.
*
For the Studio Technique II we go one step further in also teaching the students more about coaching the model, a bit more styling, but most of all understanding how to find the right angle and learn to visualise the setups and the outcome.

We started out with a very simple setup in which the students had to shoot a softlight but not flat image, with the 1.90mtr Elinchrom Octa bank.
The problem you often see with people using the very large light banks is that the end result is often very flat looking an missing a lot of the things that give an image depth and “realness” it doesn’t have to be that way however, by position the box the right way and choosing the right distance the large lightsources can give you an amazing quality of light.
Today Tani Mari also brought a guitar with her and because I love props like that you can imagine that we of course used this right away in setup number 2.
In this case the light was from a Chimera striplight fitted with the Lighttools grid.
Changing the lightsetup to a reflector with grid from a straight angle on our model the total mood changed and the idea was to find the right angles.
By request I used the 1.90 Octa from Elinchrom for this shot in which the only light source in the image is the octabank.
When Tani Mara changed for the last outfit and showed up in a wollen very oversized sweater I immediately knew that the lightsetup for this one had to be like the shots you’re about the see, I tried to mix some 70-80’s glamour feel with a more modern high contrast look, and let’s be honest when you see these images it doesn’t get more glamour than this 😀
Frank the guitar ones came out really great. Her hair and face really pop!
Her hair is indeed amazing 😀
Lovely set of images, particularly like the first three
