Guestblog Marco Simons

The image we look at today is from Marco Simons. He was one of the first to respond on my critique day via Twitter and I loved this shot.
The only remark I gave was that I was in doubt about the detail on the left shoulder (picture right side), but that I also liked it this way, I’m not shooting a lot of high-key portraits at the moment but you can’t resist loving this 😀

Some Background;
I’m Marco Simons, self-educated and shooting for a few years now en still learning a lot by looking at work of other Photographers and experiment a lot. I have a passion for the more alternative models and styles and trying to specialize in it. I was sending this pic to Frank because I wanted his opinion bout it, didn’t expect he would let me post a guest blog! Thx Frank, the biggest compliment I could get!

About the shot,
We worked in a studio with 2 pics in my mind that I wanted to make. One with White face and wig and one with white face, purple wig and dark clothing and background. To be honest, after a few test shots I thought I couldn’t get it how I wanted it! so played a bit with the lights and finished with this pic as a mug shot for the mua (all credits to her and her make up, she did a hell of a job) after the shoot, we always take time to check the pics on the big screen and I didn’t expected this would roll out, the color of the makeup and the look of her face was stunning! Just needed some Photoshop to make it like it is now.

Equipment used was my good old Canon ds1 and Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM on 81mm Manual exposure, ¹/250 sec, f/4, ISO 100, Studio light was an Elinchrom octa 180 and 2 Elinchrom flash for the background.

Editing: A few layers in CS5, whitening, levels, contrast, retouching some skin , and a white vignette…..
