Sweden Pt IV : some night shots

One of the things I like to do (if we are not to tired of course) is take some images during sunsets or just when the light starts to fade. I love the high contrasts of the lower sun and of course the colors of the sky with a sunset. But I also have to admit I’m pretty lazy with this, for street and locations I’m willing to travel but somehow the night shots I always try to take where we are….. maybe because we are always early risers 😀

Anyway, here are some of the shots we took in Sweden.

Faking a sunset

TIP:
You know I don’t really like to “cheat” right?
Well actually it’s a little bit handy sometimes.

Let’s say you’re on that stunning location and the sun is already dropping but it will take at least another hour to get that beautiful sunset…. and your family really wants to go, what do you do?
Well you could get into an argument and stay.

But sometimes you can get away with some “trickery”.
If you position yourself behind an object and capture the sun just barely in the frame and underexpose the scene you can very easily in Photoshop add some warmth (in this case I used DxO Filmpack but you can also just change the color temp or use Alien Skin Exposure, Capture One, or whatever tinting solution you like).

It’s not a great or real sunset but at least it gives you a slight bit of that look without loosing the image completely. And the effort in Ps is very minimal.

Roof top New York by night

During the first day of the Ultimate workshop weekend we ended up on the roof in the evening to shoot some sunset/night shots.
And let’s be honest with a view like this…. who can resist.

Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse in Jutland Denmark Part II

Yesterday I shared the day shots of the lighthouse, in this second part you can see the evening shots I took.
I have to be honest that I wished we could have stayed a few more days because I don’t really thing this sunset is the best that you could get over there.
