Route 66 Part III the town reminded me of cars

Let’s start of by saying that Radiator springs is actually a town that doesn’t really exists, it is a fictional town.
But when you visit Ludlow you really get the feeling that or they cleverly used Cars (you know the Pixar one) a little bit, or that some of the inspiration was taken from there.
I’m afraid however it is the first one because if you look online you can’t find any mention of Ludlow in the inspirational sites for the movie cars, and let’s be honest you have to do something to make people stop at your restaurant… which in my personal opinion you can better skip, maybe we were there at the wrong time but everything we wanted to order was gone and prices were… well high and service took for ever. But let’s be honest if you drive through the desert even a piece of cake and a cold coke is like an oasis 😀

Today some of the images I took of an “old” gas station next to the Restaurant.
As you can see there are two disctint different looks in these images, one series I shot with the Sony A7RII and one with my iPhone and the DxO one connected.

Route 66 Part II Roy’s

A trip along Route66 is not complete without visiting Roy’s.
In the middle of (for us europeans) nowhere you find this gasstation and some old buildings and what resembles some cabins you can rent.
Al in the good old fashioned style, and a HUGE route 66 logo just in front of the building. Just walking around there in the blistering heat is an experience that borders on pure magic…. well for me at least, I believe Annewiek preferred the airconditioning in the car, these are the kind of places I really love to see and visit, but hey…. I love that stuff 😀

When you are in that area keep your eyes open for the “graveyard” of shoes and some other goodies, we shot those the last time we visited so this time we skipped those but it’s pretty cool if you’re there for the first time.

Route 66 Part I

Route 66 who doesn’t know Route 66.
My dream route…
My absolute joy if we drive on it….
Well ok you get the idea I love Route 66.

Although that is not completely true I just love the more and “weird” is the wrong term, I mean the more “off beat” thinks, well you know what I mean right?
When we are in the states I always love to find some of those areas, we visited for example Rachel a while ago (the Alien town) and this was actually the second time we drove a part of Route 66 which leads from LA to Las Vegas. What I like about it not only the feeling you’re driving on history, but also the amazing stuff you see along the way, from totally abandoned places to towns where only a few people live and even some areas that are thriving on tourists.
Today part one of my album of shots we took during our very small drive over Route66.
My dream?
To drive from Chicago to LA in an RV and shoot whatever we find during that road trip and film along the way and write a book about the experience… maybe one day.
