Results from the New York workshop

During our stay in New York I taught one seminar at B&H and one full day workshop on September the 1st in (believe it or not) FD studio.

When you book a studio it’s always a bit difficult to find something in New York that is both accessible for the attendees via public transportation and for us to park a car. That first part by the way is not that hard in New York, that second one… well yeah. But when you see a studio that is called FD studio, you just know it has to be done there. The cool thing about this studio is that you can choose from different rooms, including a totally white room and a “dark” room. Well we opted for the “dark” room, mainly because there were a lot of cool things to work with for mixing light sources, and what a blast it was.

The images you are about to see are a bit different than from what I normally shoot.
The triple X setup was my main attraction, I wanted to shoot some “motion” shots there that are a bit more “painterly” than I normally do and involved some slower shutterspeeds. Now having an idea is always cool, but bringing it to the film/sensor is another, but in the end it actually ended up exactly the way I wanted it.

But don’t forget the other beautiful sets. This was an awesome studio, and I’m sure we will be back for the white room one day.

Our model for the workshop was Eva Rutten.
A great personality and awesome looks and believe it or not…. she’s Dutch, so we could speak Dutch without other people understanding what we said… although of course we never did this 🙂
Anyway long story short, here are the results.

Many thanks to :
Brian from Unique Photo for lending us the Hensel gear.
Paul and Alicyn for making this workshop the success it was.
Mark for hosting us that week after a terrible AirBnB experience.
Annewiek of course for everything else.
