Is Nikon doing it right or …..?
I think personally it looks pretty interesting. But I’m a huge fan of mirrorless and let’s be honest, the more competition the better.

Also the larger lens mount is good for Nikon because they were always limited due to the small f mount for lens design .

They do need that convertor to mount their old lenses. And with the new mount radical new lens designs and super fast glass is possible

No second card slot can be a problem for some shooters as is the buffer. But for others it wouldn’t matter.

Price however I feel is maybe a bit too high. I feel a switch to the Sony system is now an option that Nikon created without probably realizing it .

If they would have released it below the a7rIII price point including in the package a lens adaptor that would fully support the old lenses I think they would be back in the game. Now it’s pretty limited and at a high pricing point.

I do love the bigger grip and formfactor. My a7rIII is the first a camera I really like grip wise but I still need the extra grip to make it comfortable. That said I love larger cameras. But not too large and I think with grip the a7rIII is pretty much perfect.

Also I just love the display on top. This is something I do miss sometimes. On the other hand….. The evf works just fine.

Another thing I do worry a bit about is the limiting battery life. Although I always said that I just carried around more batteries I am very happy with the new batteries. We recently did 2 weeks norway with loads of filming and shooting and only recharged the batteries (2) twice. With the z6 and z7 it seems that 20 minutes video will drain the battery or 330 shots. And that’s very fast.

So what’s your opinion?
To little too late?
Just enough but too expensive?

I just would love to see Canon also move this way so we have all three brands evolving and pushing each other.

On the other hand at the speed sony is evolving and improving cameras it almost feels like they already have a competitor breathing down their necks. They are going really fast.
