Tenerife part 1

Sorry that my blog hasn’t been updated a lot the last week, we are just back from Tenerife where I taught workshops for PTO (Photography Training Overseas) a very special experience to say the least, but also a very troubling one on the internet side…. literally I guess if I send an email from the hotels internet it would probably arrive when we are already home it was that slow…

sometimes you wonder how hard it can be in 2015 to offer a good PAID internet connection to your customers, they charge a nice amount for it, so seeing the amount of guests it would be a “milk cow” but I guess hotels still don’t have figured out how to do it because only 1 out of maybe 20 hotels has decent/stable internet.

Anyway we are back and I want to share some of the images I shot in Tenerife.
It will be spread out over several blogposts containing some travel shots and some of the shots I took during the workshops.

Today a few from the first day and the travel.

UK tour in July

You probably already saw it on top of the website but in July we are back in the UK for 3 workshops dates (9-14 July).
On https://frankdoorhof.com/web/tours/uk-workshop-tour-with-nadine-stephan-july-10-14/ you can find all the information. The reason I give some extra attention today to this tour is because we added the St. Albans location for all the people that wanted a workshop near London.

This time I will be accompanied by Nadine, our crazy creative stylist and amazing model, so I promise you that you will end up with some amazing shots for your portfolio 😀

Now this area always fills up very fast so don’t wait too long.
We will add another workshop location very soon, so keep checking the page and if you know a great location somewhere between velocity and st. albans let us know.

Annewiek 40 Happy Birthday

Today Annewiek celebrates her 40th birthday, and indeed… she doesn’t look a day over 22 🙂

As you all know Annewiek is always with me during travels, if you book me… well Annewiek is part of the package. And even while we travel so much we still don’t have enough of each other.

Now although we travel a lot we always try to follow one simple rule, with birthdays we try to be at home, for the simple reason we find that family is the most important thing in the world, but you have also found out via social media probably that at the moment I’m teaching in Tenerife, so this is the first time ever we are not home for a birthday (but of course Annewiek is with me).

So I would love to see a BIG happy birthday from all you guys on our social media channels so Annewiek feels at home 😀

I’ll start by wishing her a SMASHING happy Birthday….

The complete picture

We all know that adding motion is often that little thing that makes a photo jump out, however always also remember that it’s still very important to keep you eye out for the styling, in this sample shot for example I did not only add the motion but also matched the clothing to the hair of the model and the background.

Often people ask me how to improve their photography or they see they are missing something and in 99% of the cases it’s not a matter of a bad photo but more a matter of giving attention to 2 parts of the 5 parts that make a great shot… now don’t think I consider my shots to be great 😀 but I do always try to mix and match everything together, and because it often looks like a complete shot you don’t see how much care we take for the little things like for example a gridded spot to give a bit more contrast to the clothing and putting the vignetting around the model.

So try to make your shots “complete” think about the complete picture and see if it ALL fits together. Sometimes it’s a very small change you need to make for a huge difference.
