A visit to Urk

Urk is a small fisher town very close to our studio, I always love to go there and shoot some images. It doesn’t really matter what the weather is like, there is always something cool to shoot. And because I’ve been working almost non stop for the last few days on the new video “Mastering the model shoot : the Lightmeter” (which was released yesterday) I really felt the need to go out and get some fresh air.

These shots were all done with the Sony A7r and some Leica R glass (love the look of those lenses).
Editing was done in DxO Optics 10, it can draw detail out of the shots I never saw before, wow.

Nadine during small flash workshop

Today some images from the small flash workshop I taught last Saturday with Nadine.
Small flash is always fun to teach because I love the reactions I get from the attendees if they see what you can do with only one strobe and a flash bender.
In the workshop I normally use a maximum of 2 strobes to make sure everyone can do exactly the same thing when they are back home, so all images you see here are shot with only 1 or 2 strobes.

It was the first time I actually used the new Phottix Mitros+ strobes, and I have to say they are pretty awesome, so if you’re looking for a new small flash system make sure to check them out.

If you also want to visit one of the workshops and learn how to shoot images like this…… make sure to visit www.photography-workshops.eu for the Dutch workshops and look at the top of your screen for the special workshops I’m teaching abroad on this blog.

Wibi Soerjadi live at the “Concert gebouw”

I’ve been shooting most of the material for Wibi for quite some years now, but one of the highlights is always the Christmas concerts in Amsterdam.
The “Concert gebouw” is not only an awesome ambience but it also has some amazing challenges due to the lighting which is very very dim, so it’s always a good time to test your camera to the limits.

I shot these images with the Sony A99 and all images went through DxO Optics 10 for Prime noise killing, and I have to say…. wow this combination rocks.
Normally I don’t shoot at the top ISO of the A99 so I only tested DxO Optics 10 in settings up to 6400, but it can handle the higher ISOs very well I can now confirm.

Now one of the things when taking photos is location and angle, and with most live concerts it’s not allowed to shoot the whole concert or even change your location. One of the privileges I have during Wibi’s concerts is that I can walk around and pretty much shoot from every location or angle I want, although I don’t want to disturb the audience and Wibi of course. This means that (as you can see) I also sometimes end up right on the stage next to Wibi, which is a very cool experience so close to the performing artist, but also terrifying because I’m in the spotlights with him, now you know why I always wear black 😀

Today some of the images I shot during the concert.
If you’re ever in the opportunity to visit one of his concerts make sure you do.

Results from the Foto Tuerlings demos

A few weeks ago I was in Tilburg to demo on the 50th year anniversary of Foto Tuerlings in cooperation with Sony.
I was shooting in an empty store next to the photostore (very cold) and as decor we used this nice old car, but you know me… and when I see a staircase I just have to use that too.

Remember that I don’t shoot for portfolio material during these kind of days, it’s just having fun with the model and the visitors and shooting some images in between, but I think they are still fun to share.
