This is how we do it…..

Today, as the title says a “this is how we do it…” post.
Saturday it was time for the Small flash workshop with our model Carmen.
Now during these workshops most of the time I will use the flashbender products, and as you already know I love these products, they are without any doubt a whole studio packed into a very small package, and when traveling this is a great thing as you can imagine.

Now because some of you ask me to show some setup images I thought it would be fun to show you a very simple setup you can do yourself with the portrait lighting kit from Rogue. In this case I used the grid with red gel and the new striplight. Strobes are the Sony’s triggered by the Phottix Odin system. So let’s start with the end result.

Winner competition “World upside down”

When I teach a seminar somewhere we always do a small competition.
For this time the topic was “The World upside down”, and today you can see the winning image from Koos Bax.
Congrats Koos, well done.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI choose this image for the reason that I absolutely loved the capture of the water and the drop that shows the world upside down while in the back the world is seen the way we know it, not only the mirror effect was something that caught my eye, but also the way the water and map are combined, overall this was the image that immediately set the bar for me and eventually won 😀

Wide angle fun

Now according to some people there are rules in photography, for example ask 100 photographers about the perfect portrait lens and most will say “well as long as it’s not below 85mm” other answers will vary from 85-135 to 200 but most will agree that too wide is not good…. well today I want to trigger your imagination a little bit by showing some portrait/model work I did over the last few months with wider angles.

A wide angle will distort the image, but I strongly believe that if you do it with that in mind it can give you some great results.

Wide angles are.....

Nadine added to the UK tour

Now this is gonna be SO cool.
For our UK tour which will take place between May 20th and 26th I just got confirmation that our very own Nadine Stephan will travel with me as my model but….. and it doesn’t get any better than this… she will also teach part of the workshop and tell you everything about styling and how to be creative on the spot.

Now for people who don’t know Nadine by now…… well ok there might be some.
Nadine started out as a model for my workshops some years ago and as a joke she once said “I love being part of the workshops and I want to surprise you every time I do a workshop so you will never kick me out because you get bored with me”….. well that grew into something that is best describes as “a super creative team”. Nadine is not only one of the most expressive models you can get in front of your camera but she is most of all an amazing stylist that is also able to tell the students exactly what’s going on in her mind, and trust me, if you’re not inspired after hearing what she does and seeing her work…. well you can always start flipping hamburgers at McDonalds…. having her with me on this tour is gonna be awesome and will push not only me but also the students to creative heights.
