Looking into the camera or not

The last few days you have read some tips and saw some images from the workshop with Susanne, today just a post with the rest of my favorite shots from that workshop. And one last tip from that series.

A lot of people struggle with the question “Should my model look into the camera, or not?”
Well I think there is no real 100% answer that will fit all situations, for me it’s often more interesting if a model doesn’t look into the camera, but sometimes it’s so much stronger if she does. When you are in doubt, always shoot both. It sounds like a very obvious tip however it’s one that is often overlooked. Somehow you sometimes seems to be locked into a “program” mode and forget to think about the other options. Especially with the “looking into the camera” shots it’s however very easy to shoot both very quickly. In most of my light setups it will however not work because I often place my light sources under a more extreme angle, but in a case like this I will always try both…. my personal favorite ? the second one 🙂

Corine small flash

Last week I taught the small flash workshop. I really love this one because every time I teach this workshop I will try out new things to do with the small flash units. Camera used on these images is the Canon 5DMKII and one strobe Canon 580EXII. For the first images I used only this, so the open strobe without any modifier.

Competition for the Dutch

For the Dutch visitors of this blog I wanna give you the following link….
Here you can enter a new competition for this month, the site has a lot of these competitions but this one is a bit special for me…. because they asked me to join their jury for this series, so enter your best shot and maybe I will draw the lucky winner from one of you guys. The winner will not only win the price itself (which is always cool from them) but also a guest blog on my blog about the winning shot.

GOOD LUCK.

Just some images

This weekend we had to visit some customers at the other side of the country, this sounds dramatic but in the Netherlands that means 3 hour drives 🙂 of course I will always carry my camera with me, and sometimes I come home with no images at all (actually this hardly ever happens) and sometimes I think I’m very lucky I brought the camera, this time I think it was a good idea, so here are some of my favorite images from the small 2 day trip.

First a small tip….
Always take your camera, you never know what you’re gonna be able to shoot, even in places you don’t expect it like in this case. I won’t tell you where it was exactly but let’s say it’s the little place where you have time to read your iPad 🙂 I just LOVED the effect the mirrors had and quickly took this shot, I think a model would be awesome in a location like this, although a bit tight 🙂
