Marie having fun in the sun
According to a twitter follower there must be a new sort of photoshoot…..
Instead of TFP (Time for Print), TFG (Time for Gardening) and well ok I have to agree, that would be fun 😀
Right after the photoshoot Marie and I did on location for the Pocketwizard review we decided to also do a little more in our garden. The theme was a bit of old fashioned pinup combined with some humor and of course a modern look. In other words we mixed everything up to make a look I love very much and you don’t see me do a lot.
Gear used
For this photoshoot I used the following gear:
Phase One DF camera with Leaf digital back, AptusII 7
Schneider 80mm LS lens
Profoto Ringflash connected to Elinchrom Ranger RX speed
Elinchrom Ranger RX speed with A head
Elinchrom Quadra with A head
I do have to add that I already owned the profoto ringflash, when I had to buy again I would prefer the Elinchrom Ringflash which in my opinion handles just a little bit better.
For all setups I used the Quadra and Ranger as accent lights, on both A heads the Elinchrom wide reflector was used. I have mentioned many times on this blog that I really love this little reflector, it gives a very wide spread and a very nice output, it’s great for white backgrounds but when using it as accentlights outside it really rocks. The ringflash was used as main light.
Marie did her own styling and changed clothing for every idea we had, and I do have to add that the idea for this serie grew as we shot and talked before the shoot so there was no weeks of planning for this shoot, so a big respect for Marie for pulling this off. Without wasting to much words….. her are my favorite shots of this session, I hope you guys like them.

99% of this look is in the light.nIn post I changed the color a bit, added the vignette.nAnd finished it off with a small amount of NIK Colorfx.ntotal work per image app 10 minutes.nYou really have to have your light in order, the look should be there when you shoot, Photoshop is used just to finish everything. There’s no real magic filter 😀
Agreed, Lighting is key. If the light isn’t there, you can’t add it later in Photoshop and make it look natural. Awesome images man
I’ll second Wikus comment, however my excuse is not only y our creativity, but also your models… they are beautiful woman to watch. Marie knows how to pose, and it’s nice to see her face more with those photos… along with her perfect body 🙂
Marie has been with us for a long time and indeed she grows every time I have her in front of my camera, absolutely love the look she has now.

Frank, another great post but this one strikes something special for me. Love the lighting and composition we’ve grown to love from Frank Doorhof but what is extraordinary is that Maria is right on. You can see such a connection between the camera and model and for me, that brings it to a next level.
Frank,nnThis is a great series of images. As always, lighting is awesome. What struck me most about these images though is how much fun they are communicating back to the viewer. As a previous commenter said, there is a real connection between the camera and Marie but there is something more, itu2019s almost as if you can hear the laughter and she is going to jump off the page at you.nnNot sure I did a great job of explaining what I am seeing and its effect but in a work, Wonderful!nnThese maybe my favorites from all you images I have seen on your Blog.nnLeighn

@Frank do you have this work on a DVD. It looks a bit hdr to. Just because the ligt is well belanced on every pieve of the images. Even the shadows are bright. Looks amazing! if you have this work through on DVD let me know!

Would it be a bridge too far if I think I recognise “typical cature One RAW converting” in these images? I ‘ve been PP’ing some RAWs in the trial C1.6 and results come out slightly different compared to my ACR conversions. I had a picture of the kids in a wooden playgarden in bright sunlight… gave me kind of the nubmer 1 and 2 look with my Takumar SMC 55/2.0 on 5DII.nYourt.

I use Photoshop for my editing workflow.nC1 is used only for tethering.nBut you can play around with curves and get this kind of color look indeed in almost every program, I never believe that editing should be overly complicated (takes too much time :D)
